Although rumors have been flying for weeks, the bands scheduled to perform at the three month long concert series in Lafayette Square were announced yesterday.
The series begins March 30 with one of the last outdoor performances by the Radiators. The group, which is disbanding in June, has four left. They are playing in City Park on March 26, will close out the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival on May 8 and perform at the Crawfish Festival in western New Jersey on June 4.
The rest of the lineup of the Wednesdays at the Square reads like a who’s who of local musicians including several with serious national followings. Troy “Trombone Shorty” Andrews appears on April 6 with the Soul Rebels opening. Kermit Ruffins and the BBQ Swingers follow with the first ever appearance by Coot.
The last two Wednesdays in April feature Anders Osborne with support from the Honey Island Swamp Band and Irvin Mayfield & the Jazz Playhouse Revue.
May 4, traditionally the most crowded day at Lafayette Square since it’s between Jazz Fest weekends will feature Marcia Ball plus Gal Holiday & the Honky Tonk Revue.
The rest of the lineup features George Porter: Jr. plus the Lee Boys: The Iguanas plus Los Po-Boy-Citos: Tab Benoit plus Navy Band New Orleans Full Steam Brass Band: Eric Lindell plus the Revivalists: Galactic plus Marc Stone and Cyril Neville and Monk Boudreaux plus Gravy.
