TVD Recommends:
The Wood Brothers
at the HOB, 11/27

Hot on the heels of his Medeski, Martin and Wood band mate’s appearance at the Blue Nile, the jam band favorite’s bassist Chris Wood appears at the House of Blues with his older brother Tuesday evening.

It seems the members of MDW are stretching out in various directions while the group is on hiatus. Drummer Billy Martin tore it up with the keyboardist Wil Blades just a few weeks back, and now Chris Wood is featured playing a blend of styles with his guitar slinger brother, Oliver.

Don’t expect a lot of long jams, although the sibling outfit is capable of sterling improvisations. Oliver is more of a blues player who is steeped in folk sounds as well. Their sound is a trip back to the brothers’ roots before Chris Wood found fame in the organ trio. Though Oliver Wood has a considerably lower profile he has worked steadily for decades. The duo has released three studio albums together and also have a live album out.
