The Louisiana Music Factory is rocking all day again today. The music begins at noon with a Basin Street Records revue featuring Kermit Ruffins, Irvin Mayfield, Dr. Michael White and the Rebirth Brass Band.
At 3 PM- insert shameless self promotion– I WILL BE SIGNING MY NEW BOOK while Garage A Trois plays insane music behind me.
The rest of the lineup features Ivan Neville’s Dumpstaphunk; the Joe Krown Trio with Walter “Wolfman” Washington and Russell Batiste; and Tab Benoit.
Night shows on Wednesday are out of the box. You can start your evening at the Maple Street Book Shop where- insert shameless self promotion– I will be hosting an event to promote MY NEW BOOK. Chris Mule from the Honey Island Swamp Band, Phil DeGruy and others will be performing. It goes from 6-8 PM.
Later in the evening, I recommend, as I do for every night during Jazz Fest, that you go where they’re not. Avoid sold out shows and the big clubs. To that end, The BMC is presenting Brooklyn Night at Jazz Fest. One of my favorite trumpeters, Maurice Brown (pictured) is playing along with a huge cast of characters including Eric Krasno from Soulive.
Another sure-to-be-hot show featuring local talents Marc Stone and Amanda Walker along with a fascinating touring band will be at the Rendon Inn tonight. Stone and Walker will be trading sets and jamming with the Brown Chicken Brown Cow String Band (pictured) from West Virginia.
I heard these guys on Marc’s radio program on WWOZ a couple of weeks back and I can easily picture their collaboration. It should be a great night for fans of old time music. There is NO COVER at this show, but please remember to tip the musicians. It’s part of the social contract. The Rendon Inn is at 4501 Eve St near the old Blue Plate Factory in the heart of the city.
