Join the fine folks from the MotherShip Foundation, organizers of the Mid City Bayou Boogaloo, tomorrow evening at The Pearl Wine Co. in the American Can Company for a benefit to re-tree Bayou St. John. Ed Volker and Trio Mollusc are the musical entertainment.
The fundraiser and auction benefits the Restore the Bayou Canopy Campaign, an effort to replace the Bayou St. John oak trees lost to Hurricanes Katrina and Isaac. Tickets, which include wine and food, are $50 for individuals or $75 per couple—with one hundred percent of the proceeds benefiting the Restore the Bayou Canopy Campaign.
Two days after the fundraiser, the MotherShip Foundation will plant three large live oaks along Bayou St. John, made possible by funds generated from the annual Mid City Bayou Boogaloo, Office Ready, and other supporters.
The Mid City Bayou Boogaloo has raised over $30,000 to support the Restore The Bayou Canopy Campaign. Last December, the MotherShip Foundation planted five, new 200-gallon live oak trees along Bayou St. John. The upcoming November 16 planting includes one 300-gallon live oak and two massive 670-gallon live oaks.
“We are thrilled to have surpassed our original goal to replace 5 trees lost to Hurricanes Katrina and Isaac,” said Jared Zeller of MotherShip Foundation. “The 3 trees we will plant in 2013 are a testament to the success of The Mid City Bayou Boogaloo and the widespread appreciation of our beautiful neighborhood,” he said.
On hand at both events will be artist Marlin Miller, the tree sculptor whose recent Mid City Bayou Boogaloo creation stands on the banks of the bayou on the corner of Orleans Ave and Jeff Davis Pkwy.
At the fundraiser, Marlin will to share his story and auction off a few of his one-of-a-kind sculptures. MotherShip Foundation encourages supporters to visit the online auction featuring items such as gift certificates, bar tabs, trips, jewelry, art, unique items and creative New Orleans experiences like parade rides and staycations.
