Jeff Albert, the impresario behind the wonderful programming Tuesday nights in the balcony room of the Blue Nile, regularly stretches beyond our great talent in New Orleans to bring international musicians to the city.
Tonight the inventive Italian drummer performs new compositions with two stalwarts of the local creative music scene—the cellist Helen Gillet and the saxophonist Rex Gregory. The second set will also feature Albert on trombone.
Benetti’s latest recording (shown above) is called Supuesto Blue. It features his Italian working band featuring Enrico Sartori on clarinet, alto clarinet and alto sax, Pasquale Mirra on vibraphone, Silvia Bolognesi on bass, and Simone Padovani on percussion.
Incidentally, Benetti is reportedly moving to New Orleans.
The show is at 10 PM and there is no cover charge. But please tip the musicians. It’s part of the your social contract.
