TVD Recommends:
Joe Satriani at the House of Blues, 9/10

Unstoppable_Momentum

New Orleans doesn’t lack for guitar heroes, but out in the rest of the world unfamiliar with the six-string passion of June Yamagishi, or the over-the-top histrionics of Leo Nocentelli, few can compare to Joe Satriani. He hits the House of Blues tonight.

For nearly three decades he has been a force on the international scene, forging his own way in a world of rock that sometimes tries to force singing and oftentimes insipid vocals on us.

Satriani’s studio and live recordings have sold more than 10 million copies worldwide to date and of his many solo albums, two have gone platinum and four others went gold, with 15 Grammy nominations between them.

His latest U.S. outing, the Unstoppable Momentum tour, kicked off two weeks ago following a hugely successful European run.

In keeping with his go-your-own-way ethos, the guitarist is touring with an entirely new rhythm section featuring bassist Bryan Beller (Dethklok, Dweezil Zappa) and drummer Marco Minnemann (Adrian Belew, Steve Wilson). The band is completed with his longtime keyboardist Mike Keneally (Frank Zappa, Steve Vai).

If you love guitar, don’t miss this show!
