Tomorrow night, Jefferson Parish venue Southport Music Hall will host indie rockers The Gallery and a special local opening act.
Since arriving in 2008, The Gallery have made a name for themselves in the alternative country-rock scene. They even caught the attention of Rolling Stone magazine, which featured the group as contenders for the fan driven “Choose the Cover” edition in 2011.
The group gravitates towards classic song structures and they sound a bit like Tom Petty with a modern LA vibe, although they hail from a small town in western Massachusetts.
Their epically written, sweepingly poetic songs make The Gallery stand out. The band was selected as finalists three times in the International Songwriting Competition.
The Gallery’s sound is completely different from the standard live fare of New Orleans (this band is the opposite of funky), but their twangy rock ‘n’ roll, sounding ready for pop radio (in a good way), will be an enjoyable breath of fresh air. And with the mid-summer, humidity-spiking rut settling in on many of us in the swamp, a change of pace is often welcomed by New Orleanians (that and a cold pool).
Show time is 8 PM. Tickets are available here.
