TVD Recommends:
Ed Volker and Trio Mollusc at Chickie Wah Wah tonight, 10/3

The former bandleader and principal songwriter of the legendary rock band, the Radiators will be making his only appearance of the fall in the intimate confines of the Canal Street club.

After over 33 years playing in the full on, guitar-driven setting of the Rads, Volker retired from the band and the road in June 2011. But he has hardly been idle. Mining his vast songwriting archive and creating compelling new works, the prolific songwriter has released four recordings in the two years since the breakup of his longtime band.

While his recorded output has been anything but limited, he has only appeared a handful of times in the live setting since disbanding the Radiators, including a much-lauded performance at the 2013 New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival.

He now prefers to present his Professor Longhair-inspired piano work and passionate vocalizing in a stripped down format. Longtime musical partners Michael Skinkus (percussion) and Joe Cabral (baritone saxophone) provide the sympathetic accompaniment required by a consummate artist who is known for his catalog of thousands of songs and fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants song selection.
