Tipitina’s hosts what can arguably called the best double bill of alternative rock bands from the 20th century since, well, the 20th Century. Local band Mahayla opens.
Camper Van Beethoven and Cracker have a twisted history. Singer and guitarist David Lowery (pictured) was a founding member of CVB back in the early 1980s. He quit the band at the beginning of the 1990s and started Cracker. He now plays with both bands.
This evening, both groups will be performing classic albums from their repertoire. Camper Van Beethoven plans to present Key Lime Pie, which was released in 1989 and was their last album before breaking up. Cracker will play their second album, Kerosene Hat. That album, which was released in 1993, featured the hit single, “Low.” It was the first song for Lowery that cracked the Billboard Hot 100, reaching #64 in May of 1994.
Lowery’s most recent effort is a solo album, The Palace Guards. Here’s the video of his song, “Oblivion.”
