With festival season in New Orleans fully underway there are so many musical options to choose from that someone suffering from FOMS, the fear of missing something, could go crazy.
Friday night, there’s a great double bill at Tipitina’s. I have not heard the Local Skank yet, but this new band has been getting rave revues. They open for the Stooges Brass Band. The Stooges started bringing two tuba players to every second line parade they play, and now every brass band, even Rebirth, is doing it. Talk about influencing the culture.
There are three music festivals on Saturday- Algiers Riverfest in a new location at Mardi Gras World on the West Bank, la Fête Française uptown on General Pershing Street and the Freret Street Festival. All three are free!
Saturday afternoon also features the weekly in-store music performances at the Louisiana Music Factory. Michael Liuzza is at 2 PM, Honeyboy Carencro is at 3 PM and the New Orleans Moonshiners is at 4 PM. I have been hearing good things about the Moonshiners new effort.
Rumors are abounding that the downtown Mardi Gras Indian Super Sunday parade is this week. Check back here when I confirm the facts, jack.
