Releasing a video used to be a standard part of any major label recording contract. But in the current economic climate, an artist has to prove his or her staying power before getting an opportunity before the cameras.
Troy “Trombone Shorty” Andrews released his first major label album last year and despite the fact that it has remained on the jazz charts all this time, no video was in the business plan. His latest release, For True, hit the streets less than a month ago and he already has a video to accompany the first single, “Do To Me.”
Thought the effort breaks no new ground; the story line features two comely young women who reluctantly become fans of Shorty and his group Orleans Avenue amid a raucous street performance. But fans of New Orleans’ vibrant culture will love the street scenes shot in Andrews’ beloved Tremé neighborhood as well as the wonderful mix of faces and characters that make up the behind-the-scene action.
