Tommy Malone and Buckwheat Zydeco
to Close Harvest the
Music Series

Can it really be eight weeks ago the fall concert series at Lafayette Square began? The organizers that run the event to support the Second Harvest Food Bank have booked a great last date.

Tommy Malone (pictured above) is best known as the guitarist/singer/songwriter for the subdudes. His solo work has sometimes been overlooked. Ray Ganucheau, who is playing with him this afternoon, has been an integral part of those efforts especially on his underrated 2001 solo debut Soul Heavy. Ganucheau arranged, played bass and guitar and helped mix the album. He also co-wrote one of the songs with Malone and played in the short-lived band that did some shows in support of the release. (Full disclosure—I booked them for a party once.)

Buckwheat Zydeco (pictured above) is an icon of southwestern Louisiana music. Led by accordionist Stanley “Buckwheat” Dural, the group has been spreading the gospel of zydeco music across the globe for over 30 years. He has collaborated with big stars like Eric Clapton but is still as down home as it gets. His latest album won a Grammy award.
