Last night’s Big Easy Awards featured some of the most celebrated names in New Orleans music. As was previously announced, The Radiators received the Lifetime Achievement Award. They were also nominated for Best Rock Band along with acclaimed indie rockers Rotary Downs and Swedish slide guitarist and songwriter Anders Osborne.
Jazz Fest producer/director Quint Davis, who many fishheads affectionately call “The Commander,” presented the band with their Lifetime Achievement Award.
All five members of the group were present (seated at a table with Mac Rebennack aka Dr. John) and each gave a very brief acceptance speech. They seemed humbled by all the attention as the crowd gave them a rousing round of applause. Ed Volker, the band’s leader whose decision to retire has prompted a huge outpouring of love and respect for the group, thanked New Orleans herself.
