Fans of the Wednesdays at the Square concert series can thank the New Orleans Saints for sponsoring the event.
This evening, The Hot 8 Brass Band and Trombone Shorty and Orleans Avenue (pictured) are on the bill for the second-to-last show of the spring season.
The intermissions between the opening act and the headliner feature appearances by the Saintsations cheerleaders and by mascots Sir Saint and Gumbo. Saints’ owner and vice president, Rita Benson LeBlanc, returned to the stage last week and launched t-shirts into the crowd with a high-powered cannon.
This week, something special is planned beyond the usual sponsor hype. The host committee for the 2013 Superbowl, which is being held in New Orleans, will be making an announcement about the big game around 6 PM as the stage is being set for Trombone Shorty’s high energy show.
