Several area clubs have been having success in the last few months with mid-week shows. None more so than Tipitina’s, which has featured such diverse acts as Amanda Palmer, the Chris Robinson Brotherhood, and Antibalas on so-called “off” nights.
Tonight the American Music Award-winning singer-songwriter appears at the uptown club with Max Gomez opening. It is an 8 PM show.
Griffin has long been the darling of an eclectic group of fans enamored with her stripped down sound and compelling songs. Some of these fans include some really famous musicians. She toured as a backing vocalist with former Led Zeppelin vocalist Robert Plant and his Band of Joy.
A 2009 collaboration with gospel legend Mavis Staples led to her own gospel album, which featured A-list country singers Shawn Colin and Emmylou Harris. She also toured with Harris. Numerous artists including Linda Ronstadt, the Dixie Chicks, Martina McBride, Bette Midler, and many others have covered her songs.
Patty Griffin puts on an impressive show that features her switching off between piano and guitar.
