This evening, the saxophonist celebrates the release of Conscious Evolution at Snug Harbor Jazz Bistro. Show times are at 8 and 10 PM.
Occasionally a musician slips under my radar. Since 2005, Khari Lee has quietly been building a name for himself in New Orleans, but according to my records, I have only seen him perform a handful of times, most notably at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival with the Tremé Brass Band and with Irvin Mayfield’s New Orleans Jazz Orchestra.
I suspect that I am not the only jazz fan in New Orleans who needs to hear more of this young talent who doubles on alto and soprano saxophone. This situation should certainly change with the release of his new CD, which features such stalwarts of the local scene as the pianist Michael Pellera, the bassist David Pulphus, the drummer Geoff Clapp and the trumpeter Ed Anderson.
