Depending on your age demographic, you know him as the drummer for Johnny Sketch and the Dirty Notes or as the son of blues guitarist and singer Spencer Bohren. But tonight, you will see a different side of the musician altogether—classical pianist.
Andre Bohren has spent the last ten years banging the skins for the local funk/rock band. But throughout most of his youth he studied classical piano. He attended Loyola University where the members of Johnny Sketch and the Dirty Notes met and formed the band.
Fans in the older demographic may recall hearing Andre perform on piano at his father’s annual Christmas show, which has been a staple of Snug Harbor’s December calendar for years. I saw him when he was mostly likely not yet a teenager and marveled at his proficiency at such a young age. He went on to win numerous awards and accolades as a classical performer before setting it aside to rock.
Now Bohren has dug back into the sheet music and will play two solo sets tonight at 8 and 10 PM. You can expect to hear compositions from Debussy, Chopin and Mussorgsky and much more. Andre will introduce each piece and describe the music and the composers.
