Po-Boy Festival Preview

This Sunday is the fifth annual New Orleans Po-Boy Festival, which takes places along Oak Street in the historic Carrollton neighborhood. Here’s a look at the music schedule so you can begin planning your day.

Due to the vast number of people that have crowded the narrow street every year, the organizers have continued to stretch the dimensions of the festival. The two main stages bookend Oak Street—the Streetcar stage is on the corner of Carrollton and Oak streets and the River stage is nearly into Jefferson Parish at Eagle and Oak streets. The brass band stage is a block off of Oak at the corner of Leonidas and Plum streets.

The music kicks off at the Streetcar stage bright and early with Gravy at 10:45 AM. The nouveau funk band is followed by Los Po-boy-Citos at 12:15 PM, Flow Tribe at 1:45 PM and Khris Royal (pictured above) and Dark Matter at 3:30 PM. George Porter Jr. & His Runnin’ Pardners brings the whole day to a slammin’ close at 4:45 PM.

At the other end of the street, 101 Runners (pictured above-photo by Bob Compton) kick things off at 12:30 PM followed by the Joe Krown Organ Combo with Walter Wolfman” Washington & Russell Batiste at 2:00 PM and the Revivalists at 3:30 PM. Papa Grows Funk closes the River stage at 5 PM.

The Stooges Brass Band is the first act on the Leanders stage at 12 noon and the day culminates with the Rebirth Brass Band at 4:30 PM. In between, Mia Borders (pictured above) and Dee-1 will entertain the crowds.
