Since forming a partnership with AEG, the industry giant that produces Coachella, the indie tastemaker festival in the California desert, Festival Productions, the producers of Jazz Fest, has made great strides in diversifying the talent lineup for the annual event.
In addition to hundreds of mainstay New Orleans acts, several highly acclaimed bands that appeal to a younger, indie demographic are booked including the Arcade Fire, the Decemberists and Mumford & Sons.
They have also opened up the lineup with respect to international acts further than it has been stretched since the early 1990s. Ivan Lins, the legendary Brazilian songwriter, is booked for the first time. The island of Haiti, which was devastated by a major earthquake a year ago, is represented by RAM, Boukman Eksperyans and Wyclef Jean.
The jazz bookings are also strong with veterans like Sonny Rollins and Ron Carter alongside critical darlings like clarinetist Anat Cohen.
Of course, rock superstars like Robert Plant and Jeff Beck are booked as well. Dylan James shot the video of Beck at the 2010 festival that follows the full lineup below.
