At a press conference outside the iconic gates of Louis Armstrong Park, on the boundary between the French Quarter and Tremé, organizers and sponsors celebrated the third season of concerts in the Park.
The series kicks off on April 18, 2013 with the “Satchmo of the Ghetto” himself, trumpeter James Andrews. Flow Tribe supports.
Highlights of the rest of the schedule include performances by Kermit Ruffins and the BBQ Swingers and the Brass-A-Holics on May 2, and George Porter, Jr. and Bill Summers on May 30. The series concludes with a special surprise finale on June 13.
The press conference began with a rousing version of the traditional jazz standard “Whoopin’ Blues” by the New Skool Brass Band. After a few words from the leaders of The People United for Armstrong Park, the 501(c)3 volunteer organization that puts on the concerts, the new poster was unveiled.
Also, Lauren Thom. the owner of Fleurty Girl, the distinctive New Orleans apparel company, presented the PUfP with an oversized check for $10,000. The donation helped the non-profit reaches its goals for the Spring season. She also debuted a new t-shirt celebrating Armstrong Park.
