The St. Alphonsus Arts and Cultural Center launches a new evening event with singer/songwriter Paul Sanchez between 6-8 PM at the former Irish Channel Church located at 2025 Constance Street.
St. Alphonsus Church is a landmark site that was an important part of the religious life of the Irish immigrants that helped build the city of New Orleans in the 19th century. Though it was decommissioned as a church, the gorgeous building lives on as and arts and cultural center. But there is still work to be done to maintain the old structure.

So, the Friends of St. Alphonsus have launched this concert series beginning tonight with Sanchez (pictured above), an Irish Channel native, and continuing monthly through March. The goal of the event is to support the restoration of the historic building.
Sanchez used to be best known as a member of the rock band Cowboy Mouth, but since Hurricane Katrina he has re-invented himself. He has collaborated with many of New Orleans’ artists including John Boutte and Shamarr Allen. His most recent success is an adaptation of the award-winning book, “Nine Lives,” into a musical that features the cream of the crop of local talent.
The concert series is free with a membership ($25) in the Friends group or $10 each evening. In keeping with the new New Orleans tradition of Wednesday evening concerts, a ticket includes three complimentary beverages.
