The Fall festival season is in full swing and the good folks at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival once again offer three days of free music in Lafayette Square. The full schedule is here.
The event kicks of Friday afternoon with a headline performance by the legendary James Cotton. Some say that there’s no one left that connects directly with the originators of the blues, but Cotton played with many of the greats and he still has the chops. The Iguanas, not exactly a blues band I know, kick things off at 5:30 PM.
On Saturday and Sunday the lineup is packed with local and internationally known artists.
There are two alternating stages on either side of the park. The smaller Camp Street stage tends to feature lesser known acts, but affords a more intimate experience.
The music kicks off both days on the Camp Street Stage at 11 AM. The final acts, Jonny Lang and Mel Waiters (pictured at top) on Saturday and Sunday respectively, hit at 7 PM.
The Crescent City Blues and BBQ Festival is one of the many ways that your Jazz Fest dollar gets spread around the city. The festival is free and open to the public. But please leave your coolers, outside food, and pets at home.
