In New Orleans, the measure of an artist’s impact on the cultural life of the city is reflected in the number and variety of tributes that occur after his or her passing.
Since Robicheaux’s untimely death on November 25, we have witnessed the funeral itself, a memorial at Marie’s Bar and a tribute concert this past Saturday night at the Maple Leaf Bar. Today’s parade and concert will be the most public display of affection for the life and work of this most singular artist. The procession starts at the Apple Barrel on Frenchmen Street and winds its way through the French Quarter ending up at the House of Blues.
The free concert begins at 6 PM and features a wide range of musicians that were impacted by Robicheaux in one way or another. Expect to see the trombonist Glen David Andrews, the guitarist Walter “Wolfman” Washington, the roots rock group the Honey Island Swamp Band, the bluesmen John Mooney and J. Monque’D and the rock chanteuse Irene Sage. I wouldn’t be surprised if there were some surprise guests as well.
