Brazilian “Sculptor of the Wind” Returns to New Orleans

The multi-instrumentalist Carlos Malta is returning to the Crescent City for several days of performances and master classes beginning this evening. He plays virtually every woodwind instrument from baritone sax to piccolo flute. I saw him perform the last time he was in town and his range and expressiveness are world class.

He will be appearing tonight as part of the Jazz at the Sandbar series on the campus of the University of New Orleans. He will be performing with the students in the jazz studies program beginning at 7:30 PM.

Thursday and Friday nights Malta will grace the stage of Snug Harbor with shows at 8 and 10 PM. Supporting him will be Larry Seiberth on keyboard, James Singleton on bass and Rick Sebastian on drums.

He is also conducting master classes beginning Thursday at UNO at 1:30 PM and continuing Friday at Loyola University at 4 PM before he heads to Lafayette for a performance at the Acadiana Center for the Arts.
