VIA PRESS RELEASE | The German queen of punk releases new single “Shadrack,” the lyrics are based on the biblical story of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego.
Nina Hagen releases her own unique version of the song “Shadrack,” originally written in the 1930s by composer Robert MacGimsey. The song has been performed by Louis Armstrong, Sonny Rollins, and the Beastie Boys.
Nina explains the meaning behind her version of “Shadrack”: “During my lifetime I have observed over and over again how too many people, sadly waste not a “jot” of time. They are obsessed with excessive wealth, money and property and give zero thought when it comes to the “big picture” about eternal life.”
“I sing gospel songs as an invitation to all of us, the earthly + mortals, especially the arrogant and the haughty, in the hope that we will all be inspired… by the beauty and the power of love: charity, that can strengthen and animate us, to work together in the now and in the here for a more just and humane world.”
Last year Nina shared a cosmic dub track called “Unity” featuring funk legend George Clinton and plans to release a new album on Groenland Records in the near future.
