Tonight, January 30th – He’s My Brother, She’s My Sister at The Basement – 9PM
If it’s just to find out exactly what “Flamboyant Folk, Glam-a-billy, Circus Rock, Vaudeville Pop, Cabaret Blues” is, head down to The Basement tonight for He’s My Brother, She’s My Sister. This eclectic group made up of accomplished musicians, thespians, and performers blends 60’s pop, Folk, and accents of strings, Mariachi, and whatever else they feel like. Many of the members have extensive theatrical backgrounds, so you’re bound to get a great stage show. A tap-dancer as percussion? Yes, please.
Tuesday, January 31st – Night Beds at The End – 9PM
Picture a desolate moonlit canoe ride on a midsummer night’s eve, and that’s how Night Beds sounds. Tranquil, serene and somewhat somber, Night Beds takes you to the same place your Brookstone dream machine might. You may have seen a short set by the group at Madi Diaz’s record release party last week. Tuesday is your chance to see the full thing and hear how those meditative layers are constructed live.
Thursday, February 2nd – Dierks Bentley at Ryman Auditorium – 7:30PM
Modern Country isn’t necessarily the genre of choice among the cool crowd here in Nashville. However, a select few do get some respect. Dierks Bentley is one of them; mostly because of his Bluegrass project, “Up on the Ridge,” which proved that Bentley’s with the band and not just a chord-strumming, hit-singing, pretty boy backed by hired guns.
Bentley returns to topping radio charts with his latest album, “Home,” which comes out on February 7th. You can catch a special release show at the Ryman Auditorium on February 2nd. Tickets might be hard to come by on Ryman’s site, but you should be able to score some on Craigslist or from the “vendors” outside the venue.
Saturday, February 4th – Ani DiFranco at Cannery Ballroom – 9PM
Righteous Babe, Ani DiFranco, returns to Nashville on Saturday with her powerful poetry and picking. If you’ve ever seen DiFranco live, you know that she captivates from the moment she takes the stage and sends you home feeling inspired and empowered. If you haven’t seen her, I suggest you fix that this Saturday.
