Direct from Grimey’s:

OK, let’s talk Record Store Day. It’s Saturday, April 16. Over 300 limited edition titles will be released. We’ve ordered them all but we don’t know how much we’ll get. Many will be allocated. The best bet is to get here early and get a good spot in line. We open at 10AM. We will be merchandising all the RSD titles outside in the back parking lot where we’ll also have a big-ass free concert festival and massive sidewalk sale of LPs and CDs for a dollar and less. Some of our friends who are making the records at URP (the record pressing plant right around the corner from Grimey’s) will also be on hand with their competition barbecue team. They’re making the vinyl you’ll be buying and they’ll be making the food you’re eating (not at the same time, don’t worry).

These are the bands that will be playing for you:
Jason Isbell
Gabe Dixon Band
Hunx & His Punks
The Mattoid
The Carnivores
Deadstring Brothers
Ben Hall
April Smith & the Great Picture Show
The Great Book of John

and Matt & Kim will be dropping by around 4PM to hang out with us and you and they’ll be signing copies of their 7″ single released for Record Store Day.

plus we’ll have a full slate of DJs to keep the party bumpin’ in between bands, including 2 sets from the founder/owner of Sundazed RecordsBob Irwin

We’ll be screening 3 music-related films in the Basement throughout the afternoon. All 3 are debuting at the Nashville Film Festival:

Better than Something: Jay Reatard – An exciting and intimate portrait of Memphis-based punk musician Jay Reatard, who toured the world and released dozens of records over the course of a 15 year career that began in his mid-teens.
Heavy Metal Picnic – The film focuses on the 1985 Full Moon Jamboree, a weekend field party bacchanal that took place at “The Farm,” home to a cast of colorful characters who lived and partied alongside unamused neighbors in the McMansions of Potomac.
Broke – Following on-the-verge artist Will Gray through the recording and release of his debut album (featuring production by Grammy Award-winning producer, T Bone Burnett), BROKE* chronicles the stories of artists and executives searching for ways to thrive in the face of today’s music industry challenges.

Oh yeah, there’s more. But that’s enough for today. We’ll announce additional details weekly as the big day approaches.

What to do before RSD? Go to Grimey’s, of course

Upcoming In-Store Events
In-stores are all free and all ages, always.

LANGHORNE SLIM – Wednesday, March 30th @ 5PM
Langhorne Slim is on tour with the Avett Brothers and has an off day so he’s heading to Nashville! He’ll be performing here at Grimey’s and then later at Mercy Lounge. He’s currently working on a new record so expect to hear brand new songs mixed with old favorites. One of the most endearing and standout qualities of Langhorne’s live shows is the sureness that one is always entering a genuine gospel-like musical experience full of little miracles. Seriously, his performances are magical so this intimate in-store is a don’t miss. It’s also an hour earlier than usual so make your plans to join us on March 30.

The APACHE RELAY – Monday, April 4th @ 6PM
We’re very pleased to welcome one of our favorite Nashville bands to launch their nationally-distributed new record! The Apache Relay’s “American Nomad” won’t be out until April 12th but we’ll have it here at the in-store so you can be the first on your block to show your love and support The Apache Relay by buying their new album. Were you lucky enough to see the secret house show that they played recently in town with Mumford & Sons?!?! If not, then make a point to join us and see what all the fuss is about. The band describe their sound thusly, “an amalgamation of rock and roll, soul, and roots music seen through the eyes of a bunch of indie rock kids” and they are a kick-ass live band. You’ll be converted before the end of the first song if you’re not already.

WARPAINT – Tuesday, April 5th @ 6PM
Warpaint is an all-girl 4-piece rock band from L.A. that weaves intricate guitar lines, hypnotic vocals and driving post punk rhythms into gorgeous, sprawling songs that skirt the line between psychedelia and intimacy. Both live and on record, Warpaint sound like they’re channeling something truly otherworldly, and mystical. Rough Trade released their long-awaited debut full-length album The Fool in October 2010. Following its release in October, Spin magazine gave The Fool an 8 out of 10 rating, while Pitchfork called it “a nine-song seance of an album that’s as subtle as it is disquieting.” Within the past year, Warpaint has been featured on the cover of NME magazine and was named one of BBC’s “15 Most Promising Artists of 2011”. They’re in town to rock the house at Mercy Lounge and we got ’em for an in-store performance earlier in the evening.

AMOS LEE – Friday, April 8th @ NOON
Amos Lee has been building his fan base for some time and he’s now reaping the rewards for bringing his heartfelt acoustic soul-jazz-pop blend to the people. His fans include Willie Nelson, Iron & Wine’s Sam Beam, Calexico, and Lucinda Williams, who all appear on his latest album “Mission Bell”. AND his show at The Ryman is SOLD OUT so this is now your only chance to see him this time around. Please note that this in-store is at noon so take your lunch break, skip class or call in sick if you need to and join us for this rare, intimate in-store performance from Amos Lee.

WAR ON DRUGS – Saturday, April 9th @ 4PM
Along with our friends at Secretly Canadian, we are pleased to announce an in-store performance by Philadelphia’s The War On Drugs. Formed in 2005, the band was centered around Adam Granduciel and Kurt Vile and quickly became known for their melding of the guitar attack of Sonic Youth or My Bloody Valentine with the melodic sense and lyrical perspective of Dylan or Springsteen. Vile has since exited the band and the line-up has shifted but the basic sound remains. After an EP and debut full-length in 2008 the band released “Future Weather” last November on Secretly Canadian and have been on the road since, bringing it to the people. Join us for this earlier-than-usual Saturday afternoon in-store. We’re moving beer:30 up an hour too so it won’t be dry!
