What’s up Memphians? I hope your work week was easy. We’ll be taking you through the ringer this weekend with almost too much to see. We have you getting loud with some muted music, driving by some southern goodness, and getting an earful of a good Memphis showcase.
Friday, (10/19) starts things off on a good foot with the educated indie pop of MuteMath at Minglewood Hall.
Down a guitarist and up on hype, the newly reformed MuteMath are flying through a tour in support of their most recent, super jazzy (and effectively self-produced) album Odd Soul. South African Civil Twilight comes as support with heavy attention to their latest effort Holy Weather, released in March of this year.
Elsewhere in Memphis the Drive-By Truckers are set to bring their raunchy southern rock to the New Daisy.
They’re pimping their 2011 effort, which has been described has a “R&B Murder Album,” GoGo Boots. They’ve used the resulting critical acclaim to land them spots on Conan and Jimmy Fallon so come out and see why everyone is staying up late to check them out.
Young video game enthused upstart 2fingaz is playing a show at The Hi-Tone Cafe. Support is provided by Stoned Ape Theory and DJ Scales. Come out if you’re ignorant of young hip hop culture, this one should be good!
Saturday (10/20) brings with it a special treat at The Hi-Tone Cafe. Memphis Burlesque is hosting Cannibal Corset— a night of burlesque where scantily clad women dress scary sexy and dance to dark music. The tunes will be provided by Memphis metal outfit Crowlord. This one will be a good stop for anyone who likes evil music and sexy ladies (so, everyone, right?)
If you’ve got a bit of a softer aural pallette, we’ve got something just for you. Folk aficianados Retriever Records In The Rounds will host an artist showcase at The Otherlands Coffeebar. The stage will be set up encircled by the audience ensuring intimate performances throughout the night.
The night features the six string songwriting of Rice Drewry, Bryan Hayes, Jon Dillard, and Kenny Hays. The circle of Memphis songsters have over a half-dozen albums released between them giving you a long evening of folky goodness.
