Hey Memphis! I hope you’re prepared for the coming weekend cause it’ll be a doozy.
We’ve got you set up for two super-awesome side projects, some gritty Southern rock, and a rave that’ll have you dancing until your pants fall of (if you’re lucky). Straight to the dome, it’s time for some weekend shots.
Friday (8/17) starts things off on a good foot as Chris Robinson of The Black Crowes fame is bringing his latest project, Chris Robinson Brotherhood to the New Daisy. With only a year and change under their belts and a full record to promote, Big Moon Ritual, the music is young and full of life. Come out and see them perform their earthy blues in slow rollers like “Sunday Sound” and “Tomorrow Blues.”
Lee Bains II & The Glory Fires will be coming The Hi-Tone Cafe to play their homegrown sound that’s featured on their new album There’s a Bomb in Gilead. Memphis’ own Dirty Streets will provide support with their expert musicianship and raw rock sound that’s always worth going out to see. (P.S. Do yourself a favor and buy their album Movements.)
Saturday (8/18) Will launch you in a completely different direction. The recurring rave party that is Black and Neon has found its way to Minglewood Hall. If you don’t know and have trouble inferring what Black and Neon is, it’s a giganto party of lights, sound, people, and lots and lots and lots of BASS. Disc jockeying will be provided by DJ Ben Murray, and neo dance rap will make a huge appearance via Total Savage.
Want something completely different? Gruff Rhys of Super Furry Animals is touring the states in search of the final resting place of his distant relative John Evans—a man who left Wales in 1792 on a quest to find a mythical tribe of Welsh-speaking Native Americans. His adventure will bring him through The Hi-Tone Cafe. Come out and see his solo take on psych rock. Support will be provided by Richard James, giving you an extended evening of great music.
