Well, hey there, Memphis! This week might have seemed way too long and full of allergies, but never fear! Winds of change are blowing through the city bringing with them plenty of great music to go out and see.
Dust off your favorite party hat—this weekend is going to provide you with ample reason to get buck!
Thursday (3/29) will act as the perfect opener to an awesome weekend. Fresh off a recording stint with world famous producer Dennis Herring, Star & Micey will be performing new pop bliss and old crowd favorites at The Young Avenue Deli. Coming off of a stellar showcase at SXSW and with an EP on the way, this band is definitely one to watch in 2012! The best part is, the evening doesn’t stop there! The Black Cadillacs will also be taking the stage with their reputation for remarkable musicianship. Also billed are the Americana-soaked sounds of Tom Evanchuck. If you have a thing for guitars and songs bursting at the seams with folksy goodness, you have to be in attendance!
Friday (3/30) will kick things into overdrive with a full evening at the Hi-Tone Cafe. The early show (that’s right folks, this’ll be a long and fun night) will be more than enough to peel you off the couch. Nic Cowan‘s summery pop will be moving your feet and forcing your face muscles into what people call a “smile” with ease. Then Brian Collins Band will be adding a country twang to the night, as well as Gareth Asher (plus his awesome mustache) and his crooning love tunes.
Although that’d be enough music to call it a night—you shouldn’t dare yet! The late show will start up as the night has fully set in. One of Memphis’ favorite “cult” bands Tiger High are gonna be closing out the evening with their throwback pop-rock. With the members collectively being in half a dozen of Memphis’ most worthwhile bands in the past 10 years, Tiger High is definitely a bluff city native to keep your eyes on. They won’t be the only act keeping you up late, as Booyah! Dad and their solid set of songs will be playing through the night.
Saturday (3/31) will act as the perfect cap on one hell of a three day run. The New Daisy is going to host some ridiculous rock to get your feet moving and your heart racing. Some of Memphis’ best rock acts will be showing off that our fair city “still has it” when it comes to rawking music. Young but successful Deadfall Road is billed, so you can expect plenty of energy from the teen band. Get down to Above Only, who will be playing their extensive catalog, and One Less Reason gives you yet another reason to be in attendance.
Unless you’re carrying a giant log, this weekend has more fun goings-on than you’ll be able to shake a stick at. I hope to see you out and about!
