The Line-Up with David Allan Coe, Eric Gales, and JJ Grey & Mofro

Memphis—the BBQ base I call home—has been all about avoiding winter this year. The month of January has yet to see a freezing day, and the only thing it’s compelling me to do is GO OUT.

This weekend is dedicated to the fantastic weather that’ll convince you to go and partake in some excellent shows in the 38104 zipcode.

Tonight (1/12) we’ll start things off in familiar territory for any southern native, a night of blues. Floridian JJ Grey, backed by his multi-talented band Mofro, will be bringing his modern-fueled bluesy rock to The Hi-Tone Cafe. Known for his story-based songwriting and stringing together strong shows, it’ll be an excuse to get up to be down for some bluesy tuneage.

Friday (1/13) will provide you with amazing musicianship in the name of Americana. Guitar Virtuoso Eric Gales will be tearing it up with his band at the 1884 Lounge inside of Minglewood Hall. Gales brings an amazing sense of showmanship to every venue, working through tons of technically impressive material with ease. The Patrick Dodd Trio will be supporting Eric Gales to add to the evening of proficient players. If you’ve a taste for top-tier musicianship, this is definitely an evening you won’t want to miss.

Saturday (1/14) caps off a trio of solid guitar shows. Off-center country legend David Allan Coe is bringing his unique brand of bluesy-rock rumblings to the New Daisy Theater. Making a name for himself through the Outlaw movement of the late ’60s and ’70s, Coe comes stocked with attitude and sincere character. His music is the perfect excuse to find reason to smoke a cigarette while holding a glass of bourbon on the rocks.

This weekend’ll roll through a hefty amount of 6-string sensations without any interruption from the Gods of “IT’S TOO COLD OUT,” so plan ahead, and I look forward to seeing you out!
