Ah, the end of a work week. Friday afternoon holds such potential! So many things to do and see in our fair city, so much time until the dreadful Monday morning, so much music to consume. So what’ll it be this weekend? Let’s have a look.
1. The Radiators Farewell Tour at Hi Tone Cafe on Friday Night, 4/15
After 33 years and over 4500 live shows (yes, you read that correctly), famed New Orleans swamp rockers The Radiators are finally calling it quits. This is the last chance (pending a reunion tour) that any of us will ever have to see them live, and what a show it will be. Remarkably, they’ve kept the same 5-man lineup for their entire career – a feat few could match. Dig it.
2. Iron Mic Coalition at the New Daisy Theater on Saturday Night, 4/16
Some of the first shows I went to in Memphis were IMC shows. I was still in college, and me and my buddy Jeremy would get down to the Full Moon Club and dance like fools for a few hours. I have some good memories with IMC. If you like gritty/grimy hip hop, soul breaks, or music that is undeniably Memphis, this is the show for you. Dig it.
3. Oh No Oh My at the Hi Tone Cafe on Sunday Night, 4/17
Austin-via-Nashville-via-Austin indie rockers (does anyone even know what that means anymore?) Oh No Oh My have had an eventful few years, to say the least. A tour of Europe, a very slight name change (they used to be called Oh No! Oh My!), and a brand new release (January’s People Problems) have led them here. Having seen them perform live on The Ardent Sessions, I can recommend this show with full enthusiasm, as they are sure not to disappoint. And for any locals who occasionally yearn for the days of 2-singer Snowglobe… Tim Regan is in this band! Dig it!
Get out and see some great shows this weekend.. I’ll see you there!
