The Line Up: An Electronic Guide to the Fareveller Memphis Music Festival

Hey Memphis! Riding the high tide of SXSW, our friends over at Fareveller are providing Memphians with 7 great shows this weekend.

In an almost “hair of the dog” fashion, keeping you hype from the week before, these next couple of days in Memphis are sure to give you something to go out and go see. With support from hot up-and-coming bands like Maps and Atlases and The Black Belles, it could be easy to get lost in the line-up and maybe miss out on some great shows. But never fear loyal readers, we here at The Vinyl District know you like to dance till dawn just as much as you like to rock out with your socks out, so here’s our heads up on the eclectic electronica celebrated at this weekend’s event.

This weekend, Newby’s Memphis is your godsend for all things electronic. Playing host to the two gigs catering to sub bass and snare, Newby’s is about to be your new best friend.

Friday (3/23) will get things going in the right direction. Eliot Lipp’s sounds from way out will flip your body in dance mode. With 7 years of back catalog and some of the smartest dance music out there, your brain will be chewing on the composition while your feet are grooving to the rhythm uncontrollably. Lipp won’t be sporting his bass-heavy beats alone; Mindelixir shares the evening’s bill. Noted for such attention to detail while never losing the basic groove, his music has a depth in character not to be looked over. Arguably the show we are most excited for, this evening will be one not to miss, so we better see you out there!

On Saturday (3/24)Newby’s will keep the weekend hype with its other huge show of the weekend. Luke “Glitch Doctor” Sexton and Strooly will be wearing the Southern tag with pride, representing the small but beautiful scene of beats we’ve got in the Mid-South. With Glitch Doctor’s bass heavy bangers and Strooly’s tropical rhythms, they’ll be showcasing that we here in the South have just as good of a hold on new electronic sounds as we do on the classic rock past.

Adding tasteful outside flavor, The Hood Internet are coming around to help get your ass out of your seat and your keep your feet grooving to the beat.

With such an AMAZING weekend set for the 901 area, it’s silly not to go and at least see four or five shows this weekend. Shouting out again to our wonderful friends at Fareveller, come show your support for their amazing event that is happening all this coming weekend!
