Recordmendations
with April Novak

April Novak is a fan of rock & roll records, dream pets, and vintage dresses. Although she isn’t currently in a band, she has been in several including Rat Traps with her brother Jeffrey. April has several jobs that she hates, but she recently started booking North American tours for Slovenly Recordings.

Next month she will be going on a six week tour in America and Canada with Acid Baby Jesus from Athens, Greece who have an upcoming LP on Slovenly. Check out the dates here.

1. The Ronettes “…presenting the fabulous Ronettes featuring Veronica” Philles Records (1964)

It’s really hard for me to pick, but I think this is probably my favorite LP. Growing up my parents always played oldies radio in the car, and “Be My Baby” has been my favorite song pretty much as long as I can remember. I listen to this LP at least once a week!

2. Lost Sounds Memphis is Dead” Bigneck Records (2000)

So much great music comes out of Memphis, and I wanted to pick at least one local record. I limited myself to something from this century, and the 1st LP from Lost Sounds still sounds amazing to me! Formed by members of The Reatards and The Clears, Lost Sounds are probably my favorite band of the past 10 years.

3. Davila 666 “Tan Bajo” In the Red Records (2011)

I think I’m in love with Davila 666. 2011 has been great for new records, but so far Tan Bajo is my front-runner for favorite LP of the year. This is the 2nd album from this amazing Puerto Rican garage band, released in March of this year. I listen to it all the time, and I’ve yet to get sick of it even though I have no idea what they’re saying!!
