16 over 48: the Memphis Demos

16 Over 48 is an event developed by Ardent Studios with Memphis musicians in mind. The project will feature a series of 48 hour events allowing musicians to bring out their inner recording artist on state-of-the-art gear at a fraction of the normal cost. The debut event – The Memphis Demos – will begin at midnight on October 8, 2011. Participants in The Memphis Demos will record in Ardent’s renovated Studio C, outfitted with everything needed to make the best demos possible. A backline of drums and guitar and bass amps will be set up and ready to track through their new SSL Duality console. For 48 hours, 16 groups of musicians need only bring their instruments and voices to track in a ready-to-go environment with very little setup required. Experienced musicians of any genre and instrumentation are welcome. Each group will walk away with two CD copies of their performances, mixed on the fly. www.ardentstudios.com

River Arts Fest is an annual fine arts festival in the historic South Main Arts District. Leadership Memphis presents the annual Multicultural Breakfast on October 26 to focus on multiculturalism in the Memphis community and its increasing importance relating to civic inclusivity, quality of life, and global connectivity. The program will feature a special M3 Month performance and guest speaker Dr. Rajiv Grover of the University of Memphis who will speak on ” Two Keys to Great Leadership: Diversity and Creativity.” This talk will focus on two relevant concepts that make great leaders – diversity and creativity. How diversity influences creativity and how creativity effects individual and organizational performance will be discussed. Evidence from recent findings regarding the same will be presented. Behaviors, attitudes and policies influencing diversity and creativity will be explored. The Multicultural Breakfast is open to Leadership Memphis alumni and the general public.
