Weekend Shots!

FYF might be this weekend, but instead of convincing you to spend 90 buckaroos on the two-day extravaganza, I am going to clue you in to some budget-friendly finds.

Maybe I’m just bitter. The Labor Day weekend festival is great and all… in fact, the only reason my groupie self won’t be there is because I did not receive a press pass. Boo hoo. Whatever. I watched David Cross on YouTube last night, anyways. Who needs him?!

But instead of moping about missing performances from the likes of Yeasayer, The Growlers, and Dinosaur Jr. (who are embarrassingly small-fonted on the lineup flyer), I will dive heavily into local shows and dollar beers. On second thought, the latter might be a tad messy…

And away we go!

9.1.12

Don’t spend this scorcher Saturday at some dirty lot in China Town. Mosey on over to the Bootleg Bar for a $10 show featuring Nerf Herder, Tsar, and Dollyrots. Doors open at 8p. Meeeoooow.

9.1.12

No, this isn’t a typo; I am aware that there are two suggestions for this Saturday. Too many exciting things are happening that day, though, for me to not include more than one! A bunch of guys (Burger Records, Blundertown, Hex, Tee Pee Records, yada yada yada) are presenting a FREE FYF Fest afterparty. Swing by Footsie’s Bar downtown at 10p to catch sets from The Shrine, Feeding People, and Savage Gospel. A show brag-worthy enough that the trendiest Warpaint fan would gladly give up their latest Jeffrey Campbell’s.

9.2.12

The Cha Cha Lounge over in Silverlake has been pulling in some pretty rad dudes to guest DJ. This Sunday, complementing Full Time Punx, the charismatic frontman/artist/guitarist King Tuff will be spinning a free set. I’m more than curious to see how his music translates.

Feast your ears on his track “Alone and Stoned.”
