Greetings from Laurel Canyon!
It feels good to be back home. My garage here in the canyon is a mighty “friendly” spot.
This week I have friends in mind. Austin and SXSW was productive and I made new friends and hung with old ones as well. As I repeatedly say, my life—my journey, has been about cool people and great music.
I’m calling this week’s Idelic Hour “The Old Crew” because it’s been a week with a number of reunions with old friends. To top off Texas, a couple from my old “crew”—from what us city kids call “the yard”—was visiting LA. For me in the 70’s, New York City and rock n roll were the backdrop for juvenile delinquency. Our “crew” hung in Central Park—spots like “the quartz,” “the shell,” and “frisbee hill” at The Schaefer Music Festival.
On Tuesday Marc, Cliff, Randy, and I somehow made it to Laguna Beach. We had a ball laughing about purse snatching, robbing drug stores, and being stranded in Jersey “tripping” amidst the chaos of a Yes show at Roosevelt Stadium.
When I was putting this mix together I was feeling loose—thinking about my record collection and a crew of friends. Some new friends like Cults, Vaccines, Red Fang, and Unknown Mortal Orchestra and some from the old crew like Elton John, Delaney & Bonnie, 999, Zeppelin and Yes.
Funny that all of us old delinquents are now parents and I dare say turning 50! Yo! This mix and mash of records—aka The Idelic Hour—is dedicated to us making it 35 years on to have a laugh about the old days.
Now, rock on crew!
