TVD’s The Idelic Hour with Jon Sidel

Greetings from Laurel Canyon!

Hollywood… Where the women / Is the women / And the man / Is the man / I want to get up and go / With my funky ass jams / All the way back / To the brotherland / Take me back / I want to go back / Hollywood…

Yeah, man. I’m “all the way back.” Back home to LA, the “brotherland” of Hollywood Homies. I had a good trip last week. Spent quality family time in Williamsburg with my young, fashionable daughter and met up with as many music peeps as my trip would allow.

Over the weekend I traveled to Toronto to participate in Canadian Music Week. It had been over fifteen years since I had been to this fair city and I have to say on a warm spring weekend, this is my kind of town. Tons of skyscrapers have sprung up to create a super dense and modern landscape.

This spot reminds me of Tokyo in the early Godzilla films. At the side of mass construction and urban sprawl lies plenty of cool dive bars with rock bands and decent sound systems. I caught cool intimate sets from Together Pangea, Fat White Family, Gateway Drugs, and Bo Ningen.

Props to former Doughboys singer John Krasner for curating a cool weekend of bands and bringing many of us out.

All said and done, I made it through this work week and I’m totally exhausted and so so happy to be home back in the Canyon. As Palma Violets put it, “I got Hollywood in my bones.”

And so do I!
