Greetings from Laurel Canyon!
My wife told me there was a big astrological change yesterday. I gather the heavens have sorted themselves out and now we can “get on with it” with a tiny bit more clarity than we had last month. I’m not sure why, but I feel this.
My struggle with the technical abilities of my Mac (and thus the modern world) continue—a weird, self-imposed headache. It’s interesting to think what happens to your world when all of your “programs” from 2010 update for 2014.
Father John Misty is an artist who thinks and sings about shit like this. In 2012, Misty gave us my “Idelic” song of the year with “Hollywood Forever Cemetery Sings,” and this week Misty burst back on the scene to debut a stunning new anthem which is now this week’s Idelic muse:
How many people rise and say /My brain’s so awfully glad to be here for yet another mindless day /Now I’ve got all morning to obsessively accrue /A small nation of meaningful objects they’ve gotta represent me too /By this afternoon I’ll live in debt /And by tomorrow be replaced by children
How many people rise and think /Oh good the stranger’s body’ s still here /Our arrangement hasn’t changed /Now I’ve got a lifetime to consider all the ways /I grow more disappointing to you as my beauty warps and fades /I suspect you feel the same /When I was young I dreamt of a passionate obligation to a roommate
Is this the part where I get all I ever wanted /Who said that /Can I get my money back
I’m just a little bored in the USA /Oh just a little bored in the USA
Yep, Misty is just a lil’ bit bored with it all around here—a concept from the songs of my youth! Go get ’em Misty!
