TVD Live Shots:
Day Wave at the El Rey Theatre, 6/28

WORD AND IMAGES: MIRANDA CHIECHI | The red velvet curtains of El Rey Theatre parted and Jackson Phillips, frontman of Day Wave, stepped up to the mic. His dreamlike, pop rock sounds were obviously already known to the audience as they started to cheer and sing along.

This was Day Wave’s homecoming show for the city of Los Angeles, having been the band’s first show here since moving to the city. Day Wave performed the songs on their debut album released just last month, The Days We Had, as well as a cover of “Ceremony” by Joy Division, which naturally, the crowd went crazy for.

One thing is for sure and that’s that Day Wave’s experimental, punk, dreamlike pop sound is here to stay.
