If you didn’t catch any live shows last weekend, like me, be sure to set it right this weekend with these notable DC music personalities and one monster, yeah monster. There’s really nothing more to say, except this week I stray from the ordinary and give you reggae, a dance party, and some weird. Get your non-indie on this week with a side of Awwwwooooo!!!!
Friday, December 14th: Caz and the Day Laborers with The Scotch Bonnets and The Evokatones at the Rock and Roll Hotel
If you didn’t snag tickets to the sold out Of Montreal show at the 9:30, head over to H Street, NE for a mix of reggae and ska as presented by Caz and the Day Laborers, headlining their first official show.
A name created from the comical Latin men in the group and led by the lovely Caz Gardiner, putting the rico suaves in their place. I hear the untamed band mate, Jorge Pezzimenti, will also be showing off some tunes from one of his many projects, Jorge and the Landladies. Check out these talented locals!
Saturday, December 15th: Fatback at Bohemian Caverns at Liv (11th & U St., NW)
If you didn’t know, DC music notable Sean Peoples, has many interests and one of them is putting on a funk and soul dance party every third Saturday of each month. Join Sean and his 6 DJ comrades this Saturday for a bumpin dance party.
I hear it goes on until 3am even as the lights are turning on. It’s been going on for the past 5 years, so if you haven’t been yet, get your red dance shoes on and get it right on a Saturday night.
Sunday, December 16th: Violin Monster at Iota
I told you it was going to get weird. If anything makes the violin look like an accomplice in mischief, it’s a guy in a wolf mask who calls himself Violin Monster… well, at least I think it’s a guy. He states his mission is “to spread smiles, happiness, and tears of laughter across the lands I traverse.”
Well, ain’t that a sweet, weird monster. Outta Ann Arbor Michigan, he’s sure to confuse you in all sorts of good ways, but be careful if it’s a full moon! I kid, just go see this weirdness in person—when else can you say you saw a monster play the violin?
Here you have it, all of my mistakes from last weekend forgiven! Get on out of your PJs and into the city streets you music freaks!
