Listen up TVD readers! If you thought the concert scene here in the District was dying down now that summer is coming to an end, well you thought wrong. It’s time to put that Calendar feature on your fancy phone to work folks; we’ve got so many shows for September that we’re running not one but two previews for 9:30 Club this month!
Erasure, Tues 9/6 and Wed 9/7
English synth-pop duo Vince Clarke and Andy Bell, together known as Erasure, are expected to release their new album, Tomorrow’s World, on October 4th and will take over the club for two nights. Their emotionally-charged electro-pop beats blend a touch of contemporary soul and synthetic melody. Fans of Depeche Mode and The Assembly (Clarke a founding member of both) will not want to miss these new-wave-pioneering Brits as they bring over twenty-five years of hits to the District. To celebrate, we may just have a little something for one of our groovy TVD readers… today?
David Wax Museum, Wed 9/14
Time.com describes David Wax Museum as a “joyful Mexo-Americana fusion, with virtuosic musical skills and virtuous harmonies.” Blending sounds of Midwestern folk rock with Latin-infused rhythms, this Missouri-based group delivers a sound sure to please a diverse crowd. Fresh off of the release of Everything Is Saved, audiences can expect a high energy performance of new material from one of the hottest new indie bands.
The Low Anthem, Thurs 9/15
The American indie folk quartet The Low Anthem will bring their diverse musical talents to D.C. this month. This Providence, RI band last made an appearance in the District in February. Audiences will be treated to a longer set this time around as they headline the 9:30 Club. We can only hope this means an even greater game of musical-chairs-instruments—a definite show highlight. So Washingtonians, throw on your favorite styles from Urban Outfitters, and get ready for what Rolling Stone calls “solemnly beautiful music.”

Kaiser Chiefs, Fri 9/16
Coming off of a three-year hiatus, Kaiser Chiefs will return to the stage with their ever-catchy British rock sound as they hit venues around the globe. With the release of their new album The Future Is Medieval earlier this year, the England natives gave the unsuspecting world a treat, the unique experience of creating a custom album by choosing 10 of 20 possible tracks. Perhaps Kaiser Chiefs will allow audiences to choose their own set lists for each show; die-hards can only dream.
Fans of keyboards, new wave, and ’80s legends may want to check back in just a little while.
