Holy Ghost!, Wed 11/23
What began as the New York based music brain-child of Nick Millhiser and Alex Frankel, has now developed into a six-piece ensemble called Holy Ghost! This dynamic pop-synth group is hitting stages across North America on their first national headlining tour with special guests Jessica 6, Midnight, and Eli Escobar in support of their debut self-titled release. Pitchfork remarks, “Frankel’s rounded, soulful vocals add depth to lyrics about love, loss, and the inevitability of growing old; despite the sometimes serious subject matter, though, the music always sounds playful and party-ready.”
They Might Be Giants, Sat 11/26
They Might Be Giants is a quirky duo from Brooklyn, NY and are getting ready to celebrate thirty years as a band next year. This past summer, they released their 15th studio album, Join Us. Paste Magazine writes, “[Join Us] is always fun, consciously clever and catchy in that ‘I can’t believe I’m singing to myself in the grocery store in the voice of a personified raindrop’ kind of way.” TMBG puts forth a unique collection of music that can be inferred as both sarcastic, artistic, ironic, and probably another handful of adjectives. Fans of the post-punk alternative era will not want to miss these guys at the 9:30. After all, their career has only spanned nearly three decades of music—so there’s going to be something for everyone to enjoy.
Marketa Irglova, Mon 11/28
Marketa Irglova is a delightful singer-songwriter from the Czech Republic. Her talents can be found among collaborations with Glen Hansard as part of The Swell Season, and on the big screen in the independent film, Once. Last year, Irglova began work on her solo album, Anar, which she released last month. “Her lyrics are simple and contemplative, but never feel simplistic, and like her work with The Swell Season, it all feels almost painfully sincere. It’s the kind of music one can curl up and hide in, to paraphrase Maya Angelou,” says Paste Magazine. You can experience Marketa Irglova’s soulful sounds for yourself at the end of the month.
