While the summer season seems to be moving at an alarmingly fast pace, don’t fret—there are still great shows rolling through the area and, even better, TVD has tickets that we want to give to our readers.
As usual, we’re previewing some of the shows coming to the 9:30 Club this month and giving you the chance to enter to win tickets. Also, this time around we’re switching things up and giving you a chance to get an extra entry into the giveaway of your choice… Check out more details below!
Justin Jones, Sat 7/21
In 2010, Justin Jones was the first artist signed to the 9:30 Club’s own 9:30 Records. The release of his first EP, The Little Fox, came shortly thereafter. Since then, Jones has performed with the likes of Ray Montagne, K.D. Lang, Grace Pitter & The Nocturnals, Drive-By Truckers, and Badly Drawn Boy.
Fast forward to 2012, and the alt-country singer is now preparing for the forthcoming release of his fourth full-length album, Fading Light, set to hit shelves May 8th. Catch Jones as he plays his first-ever headlining show at the 9:30 Club this Saturday. Whether you’re a new devotee or one who as been following his career, you may want to check back with us in just a little bit… (Hint.)
Hot Chip w/ Sleigh Bells, James Murphy, Sun 7/22 at Merriweather Post Pavilion
With five albums under their belt, the members of Hot Chip are no strangers to the music scene. Perhaps best known for their 2008 hit “Ready for the Floor,” the electro-synth pop act will be taking the stage at Merriweather Post Pavilion this Sunday in support of In Our Heads, released last month on Domino Records. Also performing will be Brooklyn-based noise pop duo Sleigh Bells, as well as James Murphy of LCD Soundsystem, who will open the show with a DJ set.
Liars, Wed 7/25 at U Street Music Hall
Genre-jumping group Liars have a sound that even their most devoted fans find difficult to describe. Since their debut release over ten years ago, the band has successfully shifted and experimented with a variety of sounds, with none of their six albums sounding similar. Of their new release, the electronic-infused WIXIW, Paste says, “WIXIW cements Liars as the kind of band that can do whatever they want, and it’s always going to be worth paying attention to.” Catch the trio when they stop in DC next Wednesday, July 25th, at U Street Music Hall… and we’ll have a nice surprise for Liars fans later today!
Kishi Bashi, Fri 7/27 at U Street Music Hall
You may recognize Kishi Bashi, the pseudonym of K Ishibashi, as one of the members of indie pop group of Montreal. The multi-instrumentalist-songwriter has been the touring violinist for the aforementioned of Montreal, as well as artists including Regina Spektor and Sondre Lerche. While well-known for supporting other acts, Kishi Bashi’s first full-length record, 151a, was released on Joyful Noise Recordings after being funded solely on Kickstarter donations. Catch Kishi Bashi perform solo at U Street Music Hall on Friday, July 27th.
Santana w/ The Allman Brothers, Mon 7/30 at Merriweather Post Pavilion
Santana and The Allman Brothers, two big names of the ‘70s rock music scene, will swap closing spots for a series of six Northeast shows throughout this month. The co-headlining tour will make its final stop on Monday, July 30th, at Merriweather Post Pavilion. While both bands are touring veterans, these shows mark the first time the groups have shared the same stage.
