It’s here, the last days of 2012, so why not enjoy your last hurrahs at the 9:30 Club. Here’s your December preview and your chance to win tickets to each show! Oh, and don’t forget to answer the challenge below for an extra entry to the show of your choice. Let this be your last opportunity to take out that special cool cat you’ve been eyeing… ’tis the season of giving, so give some music!
Wiz Khalifa, Thurs 12/6 at The Patriot Center
If you thought Pittsburgh was just amazing bridges, cool cemeteries, and Andy Warhol, you haven’t heard of Wiz Khalifa—the only guy who can rock white socks. Wiz’s “Black and Yellow” has sold over 3,000,000 digital copies since release.
This Thursday in Fairfax, VA is the last stop for Wiz Khalifa’s 2050 Tour, right on time for the highly anticipated release of his sophomore album O.N.I.F.C, which has already spawned the platinum-certified single “Work Hard, Play Hard.”
Smashing Pumpkins, Sun 12/9 at The Patriot Center
The Smashing Pumpkins, even while sporting a new lineup, have no doubt shown that Billy Corgan still has a lot to give, probably even more so with the new additions spanning three different decades.
Their rescheduled Hurricane Sandy tour date is this Sunday in Fairfax, VA, in support of their latest album Oceania. Look for your chance to win these prestigious tickets this week!
Nada Surf, a band whose name means surfing on nothing, started in the ’90s singing songs about where you land when you get lost in music.
Their 2012 release, The Stars Are Indifferent To Astronomy, continues the romantic disillusionment leading you to believe that while we ships get lost at sea, the stars are always there by your side. Join their galaxy at the club next Tuesday.
If you’ve never seen the Georgia band, of Montreal live, then you haven’t experienced musical theatrics.
You never know what you’ll get, be it a real live horse walking across the stage, oversized controversial puppets, or the regular spandex full body suits. Regardless, what you get is a one of a kind show. Take a risk and see what happens on stage at the 9:30.
Front woman Johnette Napolitano formed Concrete Blonde in the early ’80s, ending again in ’95, coming back in 2000, only to end four years later, and back on again in 2010.
Yet through this stop-and-go, spanning three decades, Concrete Blonde has attained a devoted fan base throughout the years. Don’t miss your chance to see them before they take another hiatus at the club December 17.
GWAR is a heavy metal, transformer-like, costume-wearing, swear-lyric-ing band who formed in Virginia’s capital in the ’80s. Quoth Oderus of GWAR on their website, “We are pleased as piss-punch to be back on the road with old buddies DevilDriver and Legacy of Disorder, and very stoked to also have Cancer Bats with us. They are from Canada right? Why do so many cool things come from a place they call America’s Hat? Who is to say that America isn’t Canada’s sweater? No matter!”
With a nod to departed Scumdog Flattus Maximus, let the games begin with a BRAND NEW SHOW. Let the era of Pustulus Maximus begin!”
Scared yet? Get your heavy metal on before the holiday swarm.
Drive-By Truckers, Sat 12/29, Sun 12/30, Mon 12/31
Southern rock band Drive-By Truckers stop by the club, not one or two, but three nights! Celebrate the last days of 2012 with a band that has toured with the likes of Bob Dylan. Need I say more?
Yes, try for your chance later in the month to win a pair of tickets to one of their shows—your choice which date. Turn in the old year for 2013 with Drive-By Truckers and end your year in good ol’ country soul.
There is a wealth of experience, spanning decades, coming to the club this December. Stay tuned throughout the month for more info about how to win a pair of tickets to each of the above shows.
