TVD Ticket Giveaway: The Low Anthem
with William Elliott Whitmore at the 9:30
Club, Thurs 9/15

A lot of great music today has a lot of pomp and circumstance (see: Lady GaGa, Kanye West, Gwar), but sometimes the best songs are sung with a quiet, cooing voice and a slowly strummed acoustic guitar. Thus, The Low Anthem.

This americana/folk band rose to success with 2008’s Oh My God, Charlie Darwin and released Smart Flesh last February, just a few days before they played DC’s 6th & I Historic Synagogue (the last time they were here), where NPR live-streamed their performance. On their website yesterday, The Low Anthem stated that “This is the Last One,” the last tour devoted to the material of Oh My God, Charlie Darwin and Smart Flesh. In other words… this could be the last time you will be able to hear “Charlie Darwin” live.

The Low Anthem is headlining the 9:30 Club next week with William Elliott Whitmore, whom I had the pleasure of seeing perform just two months ago, and if that show is any indication of this upcoming one, all of those in attendance are guaranteed to have a good time. If you wish to be a part of this folk singin’, music box playin’, whiskey drinkin’ good time, enter here to win a pair of tickets to the show.

To enter, tell us in the comments of this post the title of your favorite folk/country/bluegrass song… anything with a twang and some Southern root to it!

Mine would have to be the classic “Wagon Wheel” by Old Crow Medicine Show, but there are many more classic examples out there.

The winner will be selected on Tuesday, September 13th at noon, but I reckon you should enter now!
