TVD Ticket Giveaway: Superchunk at the 9:30 Club, 9/29

After an extended hiatus, Superchunk shows signs of sustaining a kick they’ve been on since reforming in 2010. This August saw the release of I Hate Music, their 10th studio album. Power chords, nostalgic guitar tones, and plenty of melodic hooks can be found in I Hate Music. The album dips a bit darker than most of Superchunk’s other material, but still retains a hefty amount of memorable riffs and chord progressions.

The ’90s indie rock quartet will be coming to the 9:30 Club on September 29th. We’ve got tickets to giveaway, so come and get ’em.

The story of Superchunk starts back in ’89. At the time, band members Mac McCaughen and Laura Ballance founded Merge Records as an independent label that would release the material of their own projects, as well as their friends. Through Merge, the first Superchunk single was released to critical acclaim.

The band then made three lauded albums for Matador Records before settling back with Merge and releasing five more records before 2002. After a nearly 10-year hiatus, the band returned to form with 2010’s Majesty’s Shredding and are currently touring in support of I Hate Music.

To enter to win tickets is purdy simple: In the comments below, tell us your favorite record label. (Bonus points if it’s closely associated with a musical act.)

I like electronica, so I’m going to go with the most obvious answer and say Aphex Twin’s Rephlex Records.

The winner will be chosen on Wednesday, September 25. Tickets are still available.
