Hailing from Montreal, the five-piece band Stars is described by ATO Records as “Canada’s best kept secret indie institution.”
Well, the secret’s out (and has been for nearly a decade), and so is Stars’ sixth studio album. Titled The North, the album features 12 tracks that entrance listeners with their atmospheric, somewhat disco-reminiscent beats. A year after its release, Stars has announced the release of a limited edition 7″ single that will have two new tracks that didn’t make it onto The North. The A-side track, “Wishful,” had already been revealed. The B-side track, “The Light,” was just announced last week.
In addition to the limited edition vinyl, Stars are embarking on a fall tour. The brief tour includes a date at the 9:30 Club on September 30, and we have a pair of tickets to give away.
Sharing the stage with Stars are the High Highs. Relatively new to the music game, the High Highs have been named “a band to watch” by critics. Their debut EP was released in January and was met with great reviews.
The self-titled EP features four songs written and produced by the band’s two members, Jack Milas and Oli Chang. Some songs have been featured on both the small and big screens in the hit film Pitch Perfect and the ABC drama Grey’s Anatomy. The High Highs are definitely on the right path.
To win a pair of tickets to see Stars and the High Highs at the 9:30 Club on September 30, drop a comment below naming a band that you think is your best-kept secret. (It’s okay to share; we’re all friends here!) I’m gonna have to say a band called The Tragic Thrills.
The winner will be chosen at noon on Friday, September 27. If you don’t win them from us, no worries! Tickets are still available.
