In this day and age, thirty years together is much longer than most marriages even make it, let alone ’80s metal bands, but this year prog-metal outfit Queensryche is celebrating the big three-oh with an anniversary tour with The Voodoos and making a stop here in DC at 9:30 Club next Tuesday (8/9).
In an effort to help you make it out to this anniversary tour date, we are giving away a pair of tickets to the show that also include a meet and greet with the band! All serious metal heads need apply.
With an unprecedented thirteen albums under their belt, Queensryche hearkens all the way back to the days of Kerrang! magazine and the rockumentary The Decline of Western Civilization: The Metal Years (in which their song “Prophecy” appears on the soundtrack).
For these longer-lasting bands, it is even more of a rarity to have so many original members stick around for so many years. Early ’80s grindcore founders Napalm Death change band members at the drop of a hat these days, and even the death metal powerhouse Cannibal Corpse, going over twenty years strong, only has two original members.
Queensryche still holds strong with original lead vocalist/keyboardist Geoff Tate, guitarist Michael Wilton, bassist Eddie Jackson and drummer Scott Rockenfield, all of whom you can see and hear in their video below for the 1988 classic “Eyes of a Stranger” from the album Operation: Mindcrime.
