See, the beauty of having a TVD DC and a TVD NYC is that we can put more free stuff in your hands – either here or there.
Our friend Olivia Mancini (with her Mates in tow) returns to DC this Friday night for a show at the Black Cat, then she’s back to her new home town, NYC, the following evening. We’ve got a pair tickets for both shows to giveaway, one pair today at TVD DC and one tomorrow at our home in the big ‘ol’ apple. First though, Olivia fills you in on how to win ’em:
“I’m in a long-distance relationship. New York is my new home but Washington, D.C. has my heart. D.C. beckons about every other weekend, tempting me with family, friends, and bandmates. New York, well, for Pete’s sake, it’s New York. There’s so much to see and do, I want to make the most of my grad-school related time here. This weekend is the best of both worlds. Homecoming show with the D.C. Mates at the Black Cat on Friday. And then the National Underground in NYC on Saturday. In the meantime, all this back and forth has got me thinking about my favorite D.C./NYC pop songs. Tell us about yours to compete for 2 free tickets to the show in your city, courtesy of TVD.
Long Walk to D.C. – The Staple Singers | This song isn’t about D.C. proper. It’s about getting to Washington, and it chugs in my head as I take the subway downtown to the Bolt bus, and ride that big machine down 95 South to get back to my nears and dears. The Staple Singers had something bigger on their minds when they wrote this March on Washington anthem but, politics aside, it’s a traveling song.
I love the lyrics about having a “dime to buy some coffee, a dime to buy me a cake.” And I haven’t heard such a compelling tambourine part since “Ticket to Ride.” Runners up: “Banned in DC” – Bad Brains; “13th and Euclid” – Dismemberment Plan; “Washington D.C. Hospital Center Blues” – Skip James; “Charlie the Russian” – Washington Social Club.”
You have until Friday at Noon (1/7) to conjure a comment below with your favorite D.C.-themed song to be entered to win the a pair of tickets for the evening’s show. We’ll choose our winner then!
